“You never know what you are going to see or get…isn’t that the best part?”

welcome to my subconscious…

Kata Meic’s art is more than a passion.

It’s not created to appeal to the

mainstream

Each piece tells a story. The viewer can see their own difference. It mirrors the viewer. The sense of wonder and whimsy and youthful spirit we each have is in the artist’s work.

“I like to challenge the status quo. I don’t conform to the norm and neither does my art. When examined closely, the underlying beauty becomes apparent. Everyone has layers, but at our core, we all feel emotions - we hurt, laugh and have a heart. This is fundamentally what it means to be human, right?”

The artist is open about being neurodivergent and tends to paint at strange hours past midnight where she looses track of time. She uses bold colours to attract the viewer into a roller coaster of pieces leading the eye in every direction yet maintaining a central primary focus. The use of Neon Acrylic Paint can be illuminated with Black Light to enhance the glow of the art giving it a sense of magic.

“It’s intriguing to observe how a creation can adopt a different perspective as the lighting conditions change. It’s the same piece; only your perception has changed.”

She prefers to paint with her fingers but it gets a little messy so she uses her brushes as well. Most of the time she will use brushes that have paint on them, sometimes peeling off the paint with her fingers knowing that she should use a new brush but is too stubborn to do so. Racing thoughts, silly sayings, doodles and whatever comes to mind are all over the sides of the canvas and on the back as part of the art. She wishes the canvas had no end to accompany her thoughts. The artist paints without the aid of her glasses and with no pre-conceived notions. Each work is a story which has been revealed to the artist.

“I’m different and so is my art . My art has integrity and shows a vulnerability that speaks to others. I choose to showcase my art as something that is sought after and appreciated by like minded people, and not as a commodity. My art is not created to appeal to the mainstream. It speaks from my soul about my vulnerability”

Her intent is for others to see the awesome imperfect beauty we all have, inside and out.

“My art allows my subconscious mind to express itself, often resulting in the depiction of so-called illogical or dream like ideas…or are they?”

“Ask me why I'm different, maybe you’ll be surprised…if you open your eyes and heart maybe then you’ll see that my heart beats just like yours.”
